Coins of Peter the Great’s time have always aroused much interest among collectors.

Although at present there exists a lot of literature covering this period, it suffers from one drawback - few or no illustrations, which, in practical terms, makes it difficult to identify specific coins, or leads to errors in identification.

In the one book that fully met the modern requirements of a coin catalogue, – “Corpus” by Grand Prince George Mikhailovich – the section “Peter I Coins” was not completed: only a small number of photo-plates without the coins’ descriptions were printed for Volume II, while Volume III remained in manuscript form. The author of the present book has made a modest effort to bridge the gap by filling it with more recent information.

The RCPG is an attempt to provide the collectors of Russian coins with a reference book. It contains information on dating, weights, mintages, edge design, engraver, mintmaster, etc. Some references are made in connection with historical events in Peter the Great’s Russia. The book also contains illustrations of practically all known coins of the period. Each coin has a cross-reference to similar coins, and information on its rarity from well–known catalogues, all of which facilitates the practical work of professional dealers and compilers of auction catalogues. Charts that simplify the identification of the coin in question are also supplied.

Some coins are provided with information on their international auction sales history over the last 100 years, which helps one to follow the price trends of the numismatic market.
